Wig Care (Synthetic Hair)
Our wigs made from synthetic use the latest simulated hair strands and, when properly cared for, will give you plenty of enjoyable wear. Just follow the instructions below to get the maximum life-span and performance from your wig. Washing
Synthetic wigs should be washed in cool water with a mild shampoo and conditioner. (Using conditioner is highly recommended to reduce tangling.) Do not scrub the wig, just swish it from side to side and dunk it up and down. Wigs should be hung to dry. (Synthetic wigs may also be set when wet. See Styling below.)
1) Gently brush the wig thoroughly with a wig brush. (never brush out a wet wig)
2) Add one tablespoon of shampoo to a sink filled with cold water.
3) Immerse wig for one minute and agitate gently. Do not rub.
4) Rinse the wig gently in cold clear water twice or until thoroughly rinsed.
5) Blot the wig gently with a towel. Do not squeeze or wring.
6) Apply conditioning spray very lightly over wig, spraying 10-12 inches from the wig.
7) Allow the wig to air dry on a slender object like a can of hairspray or a shampoo bottle covered with a hand towel. Styrofoam heads are great for storage or display but may stretch the cap out while still wet. If you have a quality wig with an adjustable cap liner, unfasten the adjustment hook until the wig is dry.
8) Do not use a hair dryer. Let air dry only. You may gently style the wig with your fingertips.
9) Brush wig only when completely dry. Brush a wig from the ends and work towards the center. Do not allow the wig to dry in direct sunlight. Once dry, spray sheen or detangling spray onto the wig and comb or brush depending on the type of wig you have (See Combing and Brushing below).
Setting
Synthetic hair wigs can be set quite easily by following these instructions:
After washing, comb the hair (as instructed below) then set in rollers with rolling papers and setting lotion Put the wig under a sitting hair drier on low heat for 40 to 50 minutes. If you do not have access to a sitting drier, the wig may be left on a wig stand or Styrofoam head overnight or until completely dried. Once dry, take out the rollers and style the wig as desired. Styling
HOT TOOLS MAY NOT BE USED ON SYNTHETIC WIGS. Hot blow driers, curling irons, flat irons and similar tools will melt the synthetic hair strands and ruin the wig. The only exception is use of a clothing steamer. Synthetic hair may be straightened by placing the wig on a wig stand, steaming the hair with a clothing steamer while combing the hair down.
If wig hair gets frizzy, try any sheen spray or wig spray to calm the frizz and then comb. If not, wash then set with setting lotion to get the frizz out. When wigs are tangled, use any detangling or sheen spray then comb the hair.
